Camp at Eightmile Campground out Icicle Creek Road. If you aren’t lucky enough to win a coveted Enchantments permit in the lottery – this is a great place to spend the night, especially during the Spring and Fall when the higher elevation spots are snowy.
Bring a warm dinner to heat up over the file pits, most campgrounds have gratings too. Waterproof shoes are a must on either end of the summer season.
Hike the gradual 4 miles in to Colchuck lake, watch for the fork left halfway in. We went in April, when the trail was piled high with snow but the sun was out. Pack a lunch and bask on the rocks partway around the lake. Enjoy the sparkling views of Asgard Pass and Colchuck Glacier. If you stick out your hand, you’re likely to meet a Grey Jay.
