Enjoying the end of summer on Cortes Island, BC

Stay on Cortes Island – accessible by both boat and car. From Seattle, we drove to Garden Bay, then hopped on the boat. Water taxis from Lund are also available, cars aren't necessary on the island but ferries do run directly to Cortes if you're so inclined.

Refuel  both the boat and your bodies – at Lund. Nancy's bakery has delicious treats, including vegan and gluten free options and makes a mean egg breakfast sandwich. Pop into the general store next to the Historic Lund Hotel for bug spray, milk and anything else you might have forgotten.

Refuge Cove is another option – providing the essentials of ice cream and gas. Check out the little art gallery between the coffee shop and store.

Do swim in Pendrell Sound where the water can get up to 80ºF – topical teal water meets evergreen-covered mountains. Cliff-jump at Teakerne arm. Explore inland lakes – I won't disclose my favorite – but the options abound, Hague and Cassel to name a few.

Bring a slack-line and hammock to setup in the evenings, or days it’s too windy to go out on the boat.
